CHAT THURSDAY – ROBIN LEE HATCHER
Please give a warm feathered welcome to author and friend, Robin Lee Hatcher.
rem: Hullo fellow Robin, and welcome. Tell us three random things about yourself.
ROBIN : (1) I’m an Idaho native and have lived in
this state all my life; (2) According to my mom, the first word I said was
“horse,” but I’m fairly sure she was exaggerating even though I don’t remember
a time I didn’t love horses; and (3) I dislike both grocery shopping and
cooking but I still love to eat. It’s a conundrum!
rem: I’m not wild about grocery shopping either, but I do love to cook. What is your favorite quotation and why?
ROBIN : “There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you.” Beatrix Potter — I love it because it is absolutely true for me. That’s how I feel at the beginning of every book I write.
rem: Ooohhh, I might have a new favorite quote!! When reading, what makes or breaks a story for you? Your fiction pet peeve?
ROBIN : I want stories where I have someone to root
for, to cheer on, to suffer with, to learn from. If a story doesn’t offer me
that, I will always be disappointed. That doesn’t mean perfect characters. But
I need to care that they find their way to the end.
rem: So, character driven. Me too, whether reading, writing, or binge-watching on Netflix. What are you reading right now?
ROBIN : At the time of answering this question, I am reading The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman, Book #5 in The Thursday Murder Club Mystery series.
rem: Oh my! I watched that on Netflix not long ago but somehow missed that was based on a book. Now I’ll have to read them for myself. #seewhatyoudid Tell us a little about your writing journey.
ROBIN : I was a storyteller and a voracious reader
from a young age, but I didn’t consider trying my hand at writing until just
before my 30th birthday. rem: 50th for me I wrote my first two novels long hand on legal
pads, then typed them on the office typewriter during my lunch hours. I kept
working at my day job until the month my 9th novel was released, then I quit to
write full time and have been at it ever since. My 96th book just released this
month.
rem: Holy Moly, uh, Batman. That’s a LOTTTT of books!! CONGRATULATIONS! What genre(s) do you write and why?
ROBIN : Currently I am writing Christian historical
romance (my first love). I have also written contemporary romance, historical
and contemporary women’s fiction, and dual-time fiction, all for the Christian
market.
rem: I do love good historical fiction. Tell us a little about your latest book? What is your current project?
ROBIN : My latest book is To Reveal a Reckless Love (November
1, 2025), the fourth book in the British Are Coming series. Here’s a
condensed blurb: “When Victoria Castleton leaves Boston to search for her
missing brother, her journey through Yellowstone brings her face-to-face with
Roger Bernhardt, a gifted British artist. From the untamed beauty of the park
to the welcoming fields of Eden’s Gate Ranch, their paths intertwine in ways neither
expected. As faith and love are tested by danger and desire, Victoria and Roger
must learn that God’s
plans—and the home they seek—may be found in each other.” My current project is
To Find Where She Belongs.
It should release in February 2026 and is book #6 in the series.
rem: I do love the Rocky Mountains—sixteen years living in Colorado. What is YOUR favorite part about the book or why do you love this book? Why should we read it?
ROBIN : I always knew I wanted to write about the beauties of Yellowstone and Idaho through the eyes of artist Roger Bernhardt. I also knew that wouldn’t be easy. Although I received my first set of oil paints at the age of 12, and I have “played” with acrylics and watercolors on canvas through the years, I am not gifted in that respect. But I wanted very much to bring Roger’s view of the world to life through my writing, especially his views of Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons mountain range and perhaps most of all, his painting of the great American Bison. My early readers are claiming I’ve done so, which makes me oh-so-very happy. Why should you read it? If you like historical romance written with a Christian worldview and seen through the eyes of an artist, then this is a book for you.
rem: I, too, “play” with acrylics and watercolors (haven’t been brave enough to try oils LOL) What a lovely story concept, Robin, expressing visual art through your writing. What is one take-away from your book(s) that you hope readers identify with?
ROBIN : I hope and pray that my books bring a smile and maybe a tear or two to a reader. And ultimately I hope that my stories will reveal a glimpse of the God who loves them extravagantly.
rem: As all good Christian fiction should do. One more and then we’ll close. Do you have a life Scripture?
ROBIN : It’s actually three different verses that I boil down to this statement: “No matter what, I will praise the Lord!” The verses are Daniel 3:17-18, Habbakuk 3:17-19; and Job 13:15.
rem: Yes and Amen! Robin, thanks again for chatting with us on my blog today!
