What are you reading?
Friends of Authors Society
Who knows the best way to show your love for your favorite authors? (I’m one, right? Your favorite?) Besides the obvious of buying and reading my books, leaving a review on Amazon tickles their calculations and formulas and moves my books up in their ranks, which in turn means more peeps see my books, which means more peeps are likely to buy them.
There are other things you can do, as well. Suggest my books to your library or book club. Tell your friends, buy gift copies to give to your friends. Heck, tell ME how much you love ‘em!
Robin’s Readers Flock
Facebook group just for my reader friends!
I appreciate every one who has read or will read my books, and this group is for you!
“This group, as with my blog and website—and my writing—are all about community and family. It is a place to gather to chat and discuss my books, but also to become better acquainted and to encourage and pray for one another.”
I share snippets and tidbits that I don’t share elsewhere, as well as first previews of cover design. And when I’m stuck, I go to the Flock for help.
If you’re interested, gimme a holla! I’d love to have you as part of my Flock!
FourSquare, the Series
With the issues I’ve experienced the past couple of years, my writing was stalled so I put it aside (i.e. stopped trying to force it) until after the first of the year. One for the Price of Two in October 2022, and the between-series novella, Christmas at Blue Heron Inn released six months later in April of 2023. I have book two in the series, Double, Double, Who’s in Trouble, scheduled to be released in October of this year! The next between-series novella, Christmas at Blue Spruce Lodge, will follow early next year.
Here's a little snippet from Double Double
“Hiya, Pop.” Jeremy Jernigan waved as he slid in through the window of his older brother’s 1970 Charger. “Nice seein’ ya.”
The words spewed like the dirt and gravel as his twin brother, Jordan, spun out and raced away.
“Mrs. Jernigan?” Detective Masri held his badge.
“I’m Jocelyn Jernigan, yes.” She studied the badge. “Not Mrs.”
“You have two sons, Jordan and Jeremy?”
Weary, she raised her closed eyes heavenward and released a heavy sigh. What now, Lord? “Yes, I do.” She pulled the door back. “Come in.”
She called the boys to come up from the basement where they were playing video games; it took her three tries to rouse their attention, the third attempt had her going down the stairs herself and standing in front of the television screen.
Jocelyn didn’t respond to their annoyance but spoke in a reserved voice. “There’s someone here to see you.” She turned and retreated back up the stairs.
Expecting their dad—not that the man ever acted like a dad, at least not with them—the boys barreled up the stairs, ready for the showdown that was sure to come.
It was not the showdown they expected. Nor was it their father.
Jeremy and Jordan pulled up short when they saw the uniform.
“Boys, have a seat.” Officer Masri remained standing. He pulled a small notepad and stubby pencil from his pocket and studied them for a long minute.
Jordan fidgeted; Jeremy’s face beaded with sweat. No matter their claim to not care, they did, in fact, care deeply.
“We received a call about an hour ago of vandalism and destruction of property at 4000 Rue de Versailles in Diamond Hill.
Jocelyn gasped. “That’s Jason’s—” She turned to her sons. “Boys, what did you do?”
“Ma’am.”
“Sorry officer. Jason is their father.”
“He ain’t no father.” Jeremy’s voice was laced with loathing.
“He’s a bum and a lousy excuse for a human being.” Jordan blasted.
“Boys.”
“Mom.” Jeremy exuded snark as he mocked his mother’s soft reprimand; she couldn’t argue their point.
All in the Family
Most know by now that I had to move last year, something I did NOT want to do—I had lived in “my” little house for 16 years! But God! My landlords decided to sell and enjoy retirement. I’m in a lovely apartment and am happy with the new digs. I’m a mile and a half from my daughter, which makes us both very happy.
Healthwise, it just doesn’t stop! My body is playing a game of ‘What Else Can Go Wrong.” I laugh because, well, it’s just how I “deal.” I’ll be starting in-home physical therapy this week, with the goal of regaining strength so I can go for walks again! Heck, so I can walk period, without needing my walker.
Devotional
My life Scripture is Romans 12:2,
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV) Romans 12:2
To walk with Christ, to have the deepest relationship possible with Him, we must understand that we can neither think nor act the way the world thinks and acts. To be His Light in this dark world, we must be truly transformed into His likeness—which is Spirit and not flesh. Our life is not our flesh, but our spirit in Him.
Manifesto, Author Tag, and Bio
The manifesto short version is,
“Stories for Christians to see or remember the ugly effects of the lies of the enemy, and for unbelievers to see the beauty of the Truth of the Word of God.”
And my author tag:
“because the battle for identity is the hardest battle of all.”
“I’ve always had voices—er, stories in my head. I once said I should write them all down so someone could write them someday. I had no idea at the time that someone was me!”
My stories are deep and dark, my characters raw and real, with a healthy helping of hope and joy, humor and laughter, and abiding and sustaining faith.
My characters struggle in some way for their identity. Their stories are their journey to know who God created them to be.
There is also a strong element of friends, family, and faith in all my stories, and the difference it makes to have such a support system.
- unsavory heritage series—seven generations, from Cissy to Connie, each with their own secrets, one of which is ugly and unsavory, and initiates the curse they all bear
- Seasons series—four friends, each one struggling to know the truth of just what happened when one of them plunged into the depths of the black waters of the Edisto River
- FourSquare – Four stories about four couples who also happen to be four sets of twins.
“Maybe you have to know the darkness to truly appreciate the light.”—Madeline L’Engle
