FRONT PORCH FELLOWSHIP – THEY WILL KNOW

 

THEY WILL KNOW WE ARE HIS BY OUR LOVE

 

What sets us as Believers apart from the world around us? Is it how many times we attend church service? Or go on mission trips? Is it how well we memorize Scripture? Or how many verses we know? What about how much money we put in the offering plate each week? Or how many Christian charities we support?

 

It’s one simple thing—to love others. But not just as we love ourselves.

 

But to love others as He loves us.

 

 That’s a tall order. Love the very ones who hate us? Bless the, uh, idio— ones who curse us? What in the world?

 

Oh, that’s the thing. His love is not of this world. Which means, that we can’t do it in our own strength.

 

But the same thing that makes it impossible is the very thing that makes it simple—we can only love as He loves when our identity is in Him. When we are in relationship with Him. More than just surface. A relationship means time, commitment, communication. Fellowship. Separate from church attendance or Bible study. Both valuable parts of relationship, but not the whole.

 

So, what sets us as Believers apart from the world around us? The sniping, the holier-than-thou attitude. Being judgmental, getting offended at every little thing. Lying, cheating, cussing, sleeping around, drinking…

 

We are called to a higher standard. And the beauty of it is, He doesn’t ask us to do anything He won’t do, or hasn’t done. And He doesn’t ask us to do it without Him.

 

It’s the only way we can love the very ones who hate us. It’s how the world will know we are His. By our love.
