LIES and TRUTH

Haven’t we all heard that the serpent in the Garden of Eden lied to Eve. I propose to you that he didn’t actually lie, though he most certainly misled and deceived her. Adam, too, since he was there as well.

 

 

See, when Father said, “You will surely die,” He was speaking of Adam’s spirit man.

 

 

When the enemy said, “You will not surely die,” he was talking about Eve’s flesh, her physical body. Which, as we all know, did not, in fact, die when she ate the forbidden fruit.

 

The spirit man of both Adam and Eve did, in fact, die in that moment. Their flesh, as the serpent said, did not.

 

Did the enemy lie to them? No. Did he deceive them? Absolutely. It’s what he does. It’s all he knows.

 

This world is all about things in the natural, what we can see and hear and touch. Things that feed and satisfy the flesh.

 

But the Kingdom of God is spiritual. He is spirit. Not just spiritual, but fully Spirit. He only manifested once in the flesh. As Jesus. Even then, walking as a man among us, He operated in the Spirit.

 

 So, too, are we to operate in the spirit. Live, function. Eat, breathe, walk and talk, sleep—everything we do, we must do in the spirit.

 

 I won’t lie to you. It ain’t easy. This flesh, it’s loud! Feed me, Seymour!

 

 The enemy comes at us any way he can. He knows our weaknesses better than we do. And, devious rogue that he is, he not only hits us where it hurts, but he clobbers us when we’re down. He’ll do anything—ANYTHING—to keep us from Father God.

 

 Notice the word, “like.” He wanders around like a roaring lion. But if you listen closely, his voice is raspy, croaking, gasping. He’s no lion—there’s only one lion and HE is KING! The enemy is a worm, a snake, with no power except to lie and twist the truth.

 

 But we have an ally, an advocate.

 

 Even reading that verse brought me comfort, a wave of joy…

 

We must stand up to the enemy, resist him, and way to do that—the only way—is to take up our sword, the Word of God—

 

 —and speak it. Speak it. Out loud. Holy Spirit knows our thoughts but the enemy does not. He knows our tendencies, what we might be thinking. But he cannot read our minds. So thinking the Scripture has no effect on him.

 

Meditating on Scripture builds us up, strengthens our spirit man.

 

 

How do we hear Father’s Words? By reading our Bibles, yes. But also by listening. But although He is the Lion of Judah—and He does roar—He speaks to us with a still small voice.

 

 What has all this to do with Satan’s deception in the Garden of Eden? Just everything. Even the world says to know your enemy. And our enemy, the enemy of our soul, truly has no power that we do not give him. He has no power to create—only Father God is Creator. The only power the enemy has it to tell lies.

 

I remember a line from a song in the 80’s, something to the effect of, “I’m just flesh and bone.” Even then, my spirit burred up, knowing that we are not, in fact, “just flesh and bone,” but spirit. We are first spirit, then flesh.

 

Our spirit is who communes with Father God. Living in His Spirit is how we defeat the enemy. Earthly trials? Yeah, they suck. It’s hard. And it will crush us.

 

 

…we know and live by the Word of God. Live a spiritual life.

 

This flesh is not who we are. It is only necessary to live on this earth, to walk and breathe in this life.

 

Our spirit man is who we truly are. Our spirit man is who connects us to Holy Spirit. Our spirit man is who will live for eternity. With Him.
