TUESDAY REVIEWS-DAY CATCH-UP BLITZ - BOOK REVIEW – THE BEST OF INTENTIONS BY SUSAN ANNE MASON
THE BOOK
THE BLURB
In the aftermath of WWI, Grace Abernathy is determined to
reunite with her family, crossing an ocean to convince her widowed sister to
return home to England. Yet Toronto holds more tragedy and her nephew Christian
is now in the custody of his paternal relatives, the formidable Easton family,
who rejected Grace's sister because of her low social status.
Unconvinced the Eastons can be fitting caretakers, Grace jumps at the chance to
be Christian's nanny and observe the family up close under an assumed name. In
the course of her new position, she is shocked to discover herself falling for
Andrew Easton, the boy's guardian. Unfortunately, Andrew is promised to a
spoiled socialite who will make a terrible stepmother for Christian. Will Grace
be able to protect her nephew . . . and her heart?

MY REVIEW
Sailing across an ocean in 1919 wasn’t the luxury it is now. At least not for Grace Abernathy. Arriving in Toronto, Grace isn’t embraced by her sister as expected. And her sister’s child is being raised by his father’s family. A family who won’t look twice at Grace.
Ms. Mason pulls her reader into the division between upper and lower class. The struggle doesn’t end with rescuing Christian or taking him back to England. Grace finds herself tangled in a romance. One with no hope of going anywhere.
And yet… [SPOILER]
The emotions in this story are real and intense, the difficulties seemingly impossible.
